Pyotr Morgunov, Russia’s brand new large landing ship | The Kalashnikova Show. Episode 32
Meet the latest landing ship, tank, or LST, in the Russian fleet - the Pyotr Morgunov. At 135 metres long, this is a truly enormous ship. It's designed to ferry military hardware and personnel to almost anywhere on the planet. The Pyotr Morgunov is capable of transporting 13 heavy tanks or 36 infantry fighting vehicles. It can also accommodate two Ka-29 attack helicopters. Not to mention the Russian LST’s main job, which is to deliver hundreds of troops into combat zones. Living conditions aboard are a big improvement on previous-generation vessels and this ship can sail for 30 days without needing to resupply.
She’s also capable of defending her cargo and crew. The ship is armed with a six-barrelled AK-630 30mm rotary cannon. If required, the Pyotr Morgunov can also carry an A-215 Grad-M multiple rocket launcher.
The Pyotr Morgunov went into service in late 2020 and is named after a famous Soviet naval commander who fought in the battle for Sevastopol.
